What happens if you say no to Laurentius? ›

If the player answers "Yes" to his question, he will travel to the Blighttown swamp where he will become hollow. If the player answers "No", he will remain in Firelink Shrine and continue as a merchant and pyromancy trainer.

If you have acquired pyromancies from The Fair Lady, Laurentius will become curious and ask where you obtained such power. If you answer "yes," he will leave for Blighttown and eventually become hollow. If you answer "no," he will remain at Firelink Shrine as a merchant, offering his pyromancy services.

The first one can be upgraded a total of 15 times by Laurentius, Quelana, or Eingyi. After this, players must travel to Blighttown to ascend and further upgrade the flame with Quelana. This can be done another five times. Upgrading the regular Pyromancy Flame to +15 costs 149,500 souls.

Basically, use the regular flame if you are human and the dark flame while hollow. The Dark Pyro Flame gets severely reduced damage while you are human. You need to check the damage shown in your equipment page with the item equipped, not just look at the base stats.

It doesn't affect your pyromancy spells at all. The only thing that does is upgrading your pyromancy glove. The int is just if you want to use sorceries.
